Women’s Professional Lacrosse League Announces Partnership with Premier Lacrosse League

In an effort to unify the sport, the Premier Lacrosse League and the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) have announced a strategic partnership. With a combined 160 All-Americans and 16 Tewaaraton winners, the two preeminent professional lacrosse leagues will join forces to co-host select event weekends where fans will be able to watch their favorite pros from both leagues.

“We’re honored and excited to work with the WPLL, locking arms with the game’s greatest players, and showcasing the best competition in the world,” said Paul Rabil, Co-Founder of the PLL. “Like us, the WPLL is a league founded by the players, and we’re eager to share those stories with the lacrosse community and sports fans everywhere.”

In addition to putting the men and women of professional lacrosse on the same stage, the PLL and the WPLL will collaborate on youth events where future stars can hone their skills with the pros. The two leagues will also coordinate content creation, offer unique ways to activate sponsors and exchange best business practices; all with the goal accelerating the growth of lacrosse.

“By working together with the PLL on this collaborative initiative, we’re aiming to create heroes for young lacrosse players everywhere,” adds Michele Dejuliis, CEO and Founder of the WPLL. “It’s rare to find gender unification at the league level in sports. We’re excited to break that mold, grow together, as well as increase lacrosse’s visibility and participation.”

The WPLL held its inaugural season in 2018, with the goal of advancing lacrosse by providing professional opportunities for women in the sport. The league is comprised of five teams with 125 players, and will begin its second season in June 2019.

For both our professional and our youth players, the WPLL prioritizes character development as a means to excel in life on and off the field. The WPLL uses lacrosse as a vehicle to provide girls with skills that allow them to not only become better athletes, but also grow into confident and brave women.
