Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Hobart

We’re breaking down all the NCAA D1 teams one by one. Welcome to the Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Previews! We move another spot down the list and the Hobart Statesmen, located in Geneva, NY, are up for Preview!

In 2012, Hobart went 4-9, and with the exception of blowout losses to Colgate and Loyola, the Statesmen were relatively competitive in most of their games. Switch up an OT loss to OSU, a one goal loss to Cuse and 2 two goal losses to Siena and Robert Morris, and Hobart has a very different season.

2013 sees Hobart keep their ECAC schedule (Michigan, Fairfield, Denver, OSU, Bellarmine, Air Force and Loyola), and add in some great out of conference games against Siena, Cornell, Binghamton, Colgate, Robert Morris, Canisius, and Syracuse. 2013 will be no easier than 2012, but it doesn’t look too much harder either. Maybe Hobart can make the big jump?

Below you will find what is literally the best video HWS has on their youtube channel for their lacrosse team. They have highlights for tons of other sports, that are DIII. No love for your D1 team, Hobart? Bizarre, to say the least!

Alex Love returns, and he brings back his 45 points from ’12. He’ll be joined by Cam Stone (who put up 41 points last year), Taylor Vanderbeek, Ryan Korn, and Jake Silberlicht. The Hobart offense will still have some jump in their step, and if Seniors like Derek Akner and Ethan O’Connor can step up as well, Hobart could be deep and dangerous.

Defensively, Sean Regan will lead the way. Along with Korn, Silberlicht and Stone, Regan was named a quad-captain, and he started in all the team’s games in 2012, adding a goal and two assists. Peter Zonino is back for his Junior year in cage, after missing only one game in 2012. Stephen Doodian also returns on D, as does Peter Bolte. There is plenty of experience in this group to improve upon 2012.

Basically, Hobart was only a couple of goals away from a good season in 2012. With so much returning, hopes have to be high in Geneva that the Statesmen can up their record in 2013. They face a tough conference schedule in the ECAC, and are unlikely to bear out Denver or Loyola for the AQ, but the potential is there for Hobart to win some big games, and then anything can happen. Don’t count these guys out from making some waves.

How badly does Hobart want to get back to THIS, but on the D1 level?
