Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Air Force

We’re kicking off our team by team Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Previews with the United States Air Force Academy, located over a mile high in Colorado Springs, CO!

Air Force went 6-7 in 2012 with four of their seven losses coming by 3 goals or less, and another at the hands of Loyola, where the Falcons lost 15-8 to the eventual national champions. Air Force did boast a 9-8 OT win over Army, and they beat Mercer, Michigan and Quinnipiac by 9 goals or more for three of their wins.

In 2013, the AFA plays an even tougher schedule than they did in 2012 and will face a bunch of potential Top 10 programs in UNC, Denver, Loyola, and Lehigh. AFA will also play the rest of their ECAC schedule, in addition to a couple of newer programs in Mercer, Marquette, and High Point.

Air Force has players from all over the country on their roster, with 18 different states being represented, and while this team is young, don’t you dare call them inexperienced. The Falcons graduated seven seniors last year, but at the same time, Air Force returns its top TEN scores from 2012. That’s crazy… and what’s crazier? Most of them are now only sophomores and juniors. The Falcons are a team on the rise on offense!

So how is their defense looking? Also very solid. They graduated one starter, have a proven long stick scorer in Kyle O’Brien and two great guys down low in Puleo and Gunter. In goal, Austin Fox is back for his Senior year. Basically, this team is coming back almost 100% intact, and with their tougher schedule, it makes them an interesting team to watch!
