Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Lehigh

We’re breaking down all the NCAA D1 teams one by one. Welcome to the Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Previews! We move another spot down the list and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, located in Bethlehem, PA, are up for Preview!

Lehigh had a banner year in 2012, going 14-3, and making serious waves in D1 lacrosse. Kevin Cassese has this program on the up and up, and two of their losses came by only one goal, the third was an early season blowout loss to Villanova. Lehigh beat Yale, UNC, Penn State, Bucknell, and Colgate. Like I said, 2012 was a banner year!

The 2013 Lehigh schedule sees some similar faces, and some new opponents. I love the addition of Air Force, UMass, and Denver, though it’s too bad Lehigh won’t play UNC this year. Penn State, Army, and the rest of the Patriot League should provide a great litmus test for whether or not Lehigh is truly back this year.

Lehigh’s 2012 leading scorer, David DiMaria, returns at attack for his Senior year. He is joined by Dante Fantoni, also a Senior, and the 2nd leading scorer on the team last year. Canadians Patrick Corbett, and Dan Taylor, also  return, but the other three top scorers for the team are all gone, many of them playing in the pros now. Kyle Stiefel should have a great year running mid for Lehigh.

Sophomore Matt Poillon is back in net, and this provides excellent consistency right off the bat. Ty Souders, Mike Noone, Lukas Mikelinich and a number of other experienced defenders returns for the Mountain Hawks. Ryan Snyder should see most of the face off work after a .500 season at the X, but expect more from this Senior in 2013.

Lehigh had a great 2012, and they graduated some serious talent, but they look like they will be back in a major way this year. Watch out world, Lehigh is for real!
