Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Marquette

We’re breaking down each and every NCAA D1 team one by one to get prepped for the rapidly approaching season. Welcome back to the Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Previews! We move another spot down the list and the Marquette Golden Eagles, located in Milwaukee, WI, are up for Preview!

In 2012, the Golden Eagles went 0-0 in NCAA D1 lacrosse, because they didn’t exist. First year program alert!

Marquette’s inaugural schedule sees them take on the world as an Independent, and they take on a diverse range of conferences and independents in 2013. The Golden Eagles will test themselves against OSU, Air Force, Jacksonville, Mercer, St. Joe’s, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Denver, High Point, Wisconsin (unofficial game), Detroit, Bellarmine, St. John’s, and Duke. For most first year teams, only six of those games are even realistically winnable. Trial by fire. I like it.

Joe Amplo came over to Marquette as their first Head Coach after being an assistant at Hofstra, and he brought a couple of guys with him. Cullen Cassidy and James Raveret were at Hofstra and will play Midfield for Marquette. Jerry Nobile is a former Pride defender. Marquette also got transfers from Sacred Heart (Bryan Badolato), Presbertyrian, Bellarmine, Mercer, St. Joe’s, F&M, and Frostburg State. Any experience helps!

But did you think that was all Marquette had in store for you? Oh no, there is so much more. In fact, beyond the 12 transfers now on the team, Marquette has 35 rostered players, making for a total of 47 guys on the team in Year 1. Some of those guys HAVE to be good! Seeing who pans out, and who doesn’t will be half the fun. If schools like Michigan and Mercer provide any basis for judgement, Marquette will struggle for wins early on, but with their deep roster, and bevy of transfers, the Golden Eagles could be competing sooner rather than later.
