Is Furman University In South Carolina Going To Add D1 Lacrosse?

3 - Published February 1, 2012 by in College, NCAA

We get a TON of tips each day.  Sometimes it’s about a new pair of gloves, or a new coaching hire, a pro trade, or even a big time transfer.  And sometimes, it’s all about Growing The Game.  The last tip we received was of the latter sort!  So is Furman University in South Carolina about to add NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse?

Here is the text of an email sent out to all the South Carolina High School Lacrosse Coaches, which came from Chris Colvin, the Associate Athletic Director at Furman University:

Furman University will hold a press conference announcing a major new initiative in the Athletics Department on Thursday February 9, 2012.

Younts Conference Center, Shaw Hall on the Furman University campus
3300 Poinsett Highway, Greenville, South Carolina 10:00 AM
Your attendance is requested.

Did Mr. Colvin or Furman make any mention of lacrosse?  No.  But the fact that they sent out the invite to all the South Carolina HS coaches has DEFITELY got us thinking!  Why else would they send out an email like that?  To announce that they’re adding hockey?  I don’t think so.  We’re hoping for LAX!  Ideally on both the men’s and women’s sides… but we’d take either honestly!

Tie this in with the announcement of our first Grow The Game award, AND the fact that Colorado is going D1 in Women’s Lacrosse, and lacrosse could be having a pretty great Grow The Game week!
