Joey Sankey Honored as 2016 HEADstrong Ambassador of the Year

The HEADstrong Foundation broke the news of MLL all-star Joey Sankey as the Men’s Lacrosse Player Ambassador for 2016. Sankey is Philly native, as is HEADstrong. The local connection helped form a tight bond as the Sankey family has been supportive of the cause for some time. The role serves as an opportunity to grow the game and help those who have been affected by cancer.

The Warminster, PA, native attended William Penn Charter School before he became the UNC Tar Heels All-Time Career Points Leader. Sankey was the 9th overall pick in the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, selected by the Charlotte Hounds. Finishing his rookie season, Sankey racked up 22 goals and 11 assists, earning a spot in his very first MLL All-Star Game and the Rookie of the Year award.

The role will include anything from appearances on the behalf of HEADstrong to wearing HF awareness laces and gear, all aimed at making a difference in the lives of those affected by the disease and to grow awareness for the HEADstrong mission. HEADstrong honors world-class athletes, like Sankey, who are committed to leadership and community service as athletes using their stature for a greater cause.

Joey Sankey is now the 10th athlete take on the responsibility, following a list of highly distinguished athletes including: Tom Schreiber, Joel White, CJ Costabile, Kevin Buchanan, Ken Clausen, Stephen DeNapoli, Bill McGlone, Paul Rabil, women’s lacrosse all-star Alex Aust, and NFL Receiver Chris Hogan of the Buffalo Bills. These ambassadors embody the spirit, tenacity and compassion of HEADstrong founder, Nicholas Colleluori as they carry out the mission.

HEADstrong is in the heart of their yearly Lacrosse Mustache Madness campaign. Head over to the LMM page to learn more!
