Week 3 Results & Recap

Stealth Can’t Call It A Comeback, Bandits Win 14-13

Dhane Smith. That is all.

Seriously, Dhane went off Saturday night in the NLL’s only game of the weekend. The big man was able to get in on 8 of the squad’s 14 goals and was a force to be reckoned with for the struggling Stealth defense.

On the road and coming in at 1-1, Buffalo came out swinging early and had a 5-3 lead by the end of the first quarter with scoring coming from Ryan Benesch, Mitch Wilde, Joe Resetarits and Dhane twice.

Rookie Johnny Powless was the man of the night with the first 150 kids getting Johnny Powless t-shirts. Not letting the crowd down, Johnny assisted Cliff Smith, Rhys Duch and Tyler Digby on the only 3 goals of the first quarter for Vancouver.

The same scorers found more points for Buffalo in the second as they pulled away a bit further for the 9-6 lead at halftime. The Bandits had 10 min of penalty time in the second quarter, yet the Stealth gave up a shorthanded goal and could only put the ball in the net twice while on the powerplay.

The third period was a quiet one, most notable for rookie Hiana Thompson earning his first NLL goal. Lewis Ratcliff popped a couple off for the Stealth in the second and Digby connected once to outscore their opponents for the first quarter in the game. The quarter ended with a 11-9 Buffalo lead.

The fourth quarter was a back and forth shootout, Tyler Digby again doing work for the Stealth scoring in the final minutes to close the lead to one but Anthony Cosmo (27-40) came up storng for the Bandits to close out the game and to improve the team to 2-1.
