Return Of The Old School: Salmon Shenanigans

This week’s submission comes via Twitter from Michael Gialanella (@mjgialanella) who was perusing the great blog Uni-watch this week and came across an interesting photo buried in the news ticker. .

Just when you thought corporate endorsements have gone too far.. Let’s just say something fishy is going on here.

“Weirdest promotional photos ever: 100-year-old pics of the New Westminister Salmonbellies lacrosse team at a local salmon cannery — in full uniform (XXL-sized thanks to Dan Richardson).”

BONUS LINK FOR THE LADIES: Also in the same links section of Uniwatch was an enterprising mother who made a corset out of a lacrosse jersey. Fall fashion here we come.

Talk about multi-purpose equipment. Back in the olden days, lacrosse players could rip the duck and then go catch the trout.

Lets get a CAPTION CONTEST up in here. Use your wittiest line and post it in the comments.  Winner (judged by LAS) gets a random grab bag of awesomeness for LAS!

The Old School series needs YOU to keep it going. Do you have something to share? Email with “OLD SCHOOL” in the subject line to keep the memories alive.

  1. In the early 40s the ‘bellies started wearing a logo with the fish facing right rather than left, and said “Salmonbellies” across the fish.  New Westminster (or anyone else) didn’t play box until ’32.  These aren’t field players, based on what I can see of the sticks (the New West field teams sweaters just had a large W on the front anyway), so this promo pic is closer to 75 years old (mid-late 30s) rather than 100.
