Updated – Sisters Annual Lacrosse Invitational: GTG In Action

Sadly I wasn't able to snap any photos of our squad in action because the team was too busy winning the whole tourney. The high altiude was a factor all day but they gutted out a 4-3 victory over LO. Great job boys!

Over the weekend I traveled out to Sisters, Oregon with West Linn High School’s JV squad (along with a 7th/8th Youth Team), to participate in the Sisters Annual Lacrosse Invitational.

When I wasn’t busy eating hamburgers and hanging by the RV provided by some great WLHS parents, I snapped some photos to show how Growing The Game is alive and well in Oregon.

Photo blog time…

30+ players in a school bus at 6:30 am on a Saturday.

Pretty much a miracle that they all made it on time. Even though some were still in their PJ’s…

Nice fields but cloudy skies and the wind was gusting pretty hard.

Somehow we escaped the rain and I even got a little sunburn going.  NICE!

Tall trees and great lacrosse. Each team played 4 games in one day so endurance was key.

There were 16 JV teams at the SALI from Roseburg to Sprague, and all the way out to Bend & Summit HSs as well.

UPDATE: Even Montana and SW Washington were represented! GTG to the max.

Bottom half of the JV bracket.

The West Linn Lions JV's relaxing and waiting for our next game. Lots of characters in this bunch.

The high altitude was a factor all day, but the team gutted out a 4-3 victory over Lake Oswego in the Championship game. Great job, boys!

Update: There’s even additional coverage from the Sisters Nugget Newspaper with some great quotes from Bill Rexford, head coach of the Sisters HS Outlaws. Over 1,000 players came out last weekend.

  • There were lots of JV teams from OR & SW WA. And varsity teams from as far away as MT &NV.

  • Nice..I’ll make sure and fix that in the post. I missed a lot of the action while I was busy coaching and only saw Oregon based teams on my half of the JV bracket.

Next year I want to make sure to catch some varsity action too! GTG.

  • Shout out to PNCLL and U of Montana alum Kevin Flynn for bringing his Missoula boys lacrosse team in for the tournament.

Also, Craven c’mon man, Sisters is CENTRAL Oregon, much prettier. Eastern Oregon is known mostly for its strip mines and lack of vegetation.

  • Another side note: anyone who want’s to see a rematch of the SALI JV Championship (and a great varsity game with playoff implications) should head out to West Lin HS tonight starting at 6pm.

West Linn JV vs. Lake Oswego JV: the 3rd game in the season series. This is real!
