When rumors started swirling that the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League were going to leave Philly I was less than shocked. In fact, the only thing that shocked me was the fact that the Wings had remained in Philadelphia for as long as they had
We are absolutely loving Garrett Thul right now. The man was a beast at Army, and when he played in the Salt Shakerz tourney a couple years back he was unstoppable. Now, he’s one of 30 guys vying for 23 spots on Team USA, and he’s ripping it up as a rookie in the National Lacrosse League.
The Buffalo Bandits won the MILL title in 1992 and 1993. In 1994 they made it back to the Finals where they took on the Philadelpia Wings. The Wings had both Paul and Gary Gait on their team, as well as some other real legends, and they wanted to knock off the Bandits badly.
Welcome to a Throwback Spotted! We have found some YouTube footage of Dallas Eliuk, an NLL Hall of Fame goalie who played most of his career with the Philadelphia Wings, as a contestant on The Price Is Right, of course hosted by the legendary Barker.
After a month off, TLS is back with a vengeance. Connor talks to two prime time guests in Kyle Sweeney and Drew Adams, and they talk about NLL, MLL, the upcoming college season, Tewaaraton favorites, US team tryouts, and more. Future versions of The Lacrosse Show will be airing on Wednesdays now, so keep an eye peeled to our YouTube channel!
In my opinion, there are two indisputable legends of the indoor game currently playing in the NLL. The first is John Grant Jr. The second scored an OT winner for the Buffalo Bandits last weekend while playing against the Philadelphia Wings. His name is John Tavares.
With the NLL kicking off last weekend it’s only appropriate that we show off some old pro box lacrosse footage for Throwback Thursday. It’s 21 years later, and pro box lacrosse is still going strong. The MILL of 1993 has been replaced with the modern day NLL, but guys are still getting after it… just without the spandex.
Mark Powers and Connor are counting down the days until the NLL season kicks off and so is The Lacrosse Network! Over on The Lacrosse Show, Mark and CW are releasing one new pick in their NLL Top 9 each day until the season kicks off. Yesterday they released their #9 preseason team, and got to talking about the Philadelphia Wings!
If you hadn’t heard, the NLL kicked off its preseason play this past weekend, and one city in particular seems very excited for the return of professional box lacrosse. What city is that? Philadelphia, where Philly Wings’ player Kevin Crowley is being featured on commemorative cups…during NBA games.
We’ve got even more GREAT video from GetBenched! Check them out on YouTube and subscribe for more great old school box lacrosse video content! GetBenched has delivered some superb video in the past, and I love the old MILL promo videos, as well as this 1975 game, also featuring the Philadelphia Wings.
The year was 1975. The NLL had just started up and the Philadelphia Wings were the most popular team in this brand new professional sports league. Greats like Jim Wasson, John Grant Senior, and the Lloyd brothers played in the league, the helmets didn’t have face masks and the sticks were all made out of wood. The shorts were also truly short.
Brett Manney comes out of nowhere for the Philadelphia Wings to snag a ball off the goal line, making what just might be the save of the year. Not bad for a shot stick defender!
Welcome to another Monday Crosse Clicks, where we cover everything inside the lacrosse world, outside of the college game!
Connor Wilson shares his Most Memorable Moments from the 2013 US Lacrosse Convention. From wooden sticks to Paul Rabil to gear and a surprise ride home, this post has it ALL!
