The US Men’s Lacrosse Team has switched sponsors again, going back to Warrior from STX. The agreement for sponsorship will span a 6 year time frame so Warrior will be able to put its name on the 2010 team, the 2014 team AND the U-19 Men’s team that will play in 2012.
Warrior sponsored the US Men back in 2002, the last time the US won the World Championship. Last year, with STX as the sponsor, the US lost to Canada in the Championship game and interestingly enough, Canada was sponsored by… you guessed it: Warrior! The Canucks rocked Warrior helmets, gloves and uniforms and looked pretty good doing it. The Warrior helmets are certainly better now, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Warrior release a new helmet this year or next for either Princeton or Team USA. This helmet talk is PURE speculation but when you look at how often companies offer new helmets and who they use to showcase them first, the thinking makes some amount of sense, at least hypothetically.
I’m not the biggest fan of Warrior in general because of their advertising campaigns and expensive products (I have the same problem with a lot of companies!) but that really just comes down to preference. There are PLENTY of laxers out there who swear by Warrior gear and I’ve used plenty of it myself.
Here’s a sneak peek at the new uniforms:
I guess the only question that remains is, when you factor in the economy, why isn’t Team USA sticking with the Pinneys and Mesh look?
As we get more info on the shoes, gloves, helmets and pads we will let you, Lax Nation, know about it as soon as we know about it. Got it? Til then, lax on and look good.
