2019 President’s Cup Lacrosse Winner Six Nations Rivermen Grab Second Title

The 2019 President’s Cup Lacrosse winner Six Nations Rivermen grabbed its second-ever Senior B title on Monday while the Akwesasne Bucks won silver in Kahnawake.

The championship won by the Rivermen ended the St. Albert Miners streak of three consecutive President’s Cup gold medals as the Miners won gold in 2016, 2017 and in 2018 over the Nanaimo Timbermen. Interestingly enough, it was the Six Nations Rivermen who won the last gold medal before St. Albert went on its streak of three-straight championships won.

The Akwesasne Bucks had defeated the Rivermen on the final day of round-robin play to the tune of 14-6 in favor of the Bucks. The Rivermen, however, had different plans when they met again in 2019 President’s Cup lacrosse title match.

The final score in the gold medal game? 9-5 for Six Nations.

The host Kahnawake Mohawks has placed second in the tournament five different times, but has never won. The team won bronze earlier in the day, defeating the St. Albert Miners, 12-6, after not making the President’s Cup last season.

Next year’s President’s Cup in 2020 will be hosted by the St. Albert Miners, according to the President’s Cup Twitter feed.
