McCabe Millon Verbally Commits to Duke

McCabe Millon, the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2023, according to Inside Lacrosse, verbally committed to Duke on Tuesday.

According to reporting from Ty Xanders of Inside Lacrosse, the Baltimore product had narrowed his choices down to Duke and Virginia before ultimately selecting the Blue Devils.

In the 2021 season, Millon tallied up 28 goals and 26 assists in 12 games for McDonogh School as a sophomore, helping the Eagles go 11-1 this past season. Millon plays travel ball with Team 91 Maryland but did not participate because he broke his hand during the high school campaign. He returned to play late this summer, appearing at the Fivestar Championship Challenge in Columbia, Maryland, in late August.

The addition of Millon means Duke now has four of the top-six recruits in the Class of 2023:

No. 1 – McCabe Millon – Attack
No. 2 – Benn Johnston – Midfield
No. 4 – Mac Christmas – LSM
No. 6 – Tomas Delgado – Midfield

This marks the third time in four recruiting cycles that the No. 1 player in the class has committed to Duke, with the previous two players being current sophomore Brennan O’Neill and current freshman Andrew McAdorey.

“For me, it was the combination of an unbelievable academic opportunity — which for me, has always been really important — along with Duke’s winning tradition under an unbelievable coaching staff there,” Millon told Inside lacrosse.

Brennan O’Neill is coming off a historic season, scoring 44 goals and 10 assists as a true freshman, and will be a senior by the time McCabe Millon joins the team for the 2024 campaign. Duke just went 14-3 and enjoyed a Final Four run in 2021. In the past 16 seasons, the Blue Devils have made it to the Final Four 12 times, reaching the championship game six times.

Duke will be scary for years to come with the recruiting classes it’s landed in recent years. John Danowski is arguably the best recruiter in the nation and continues to add elite talent year after year. With the addition of McCabe Million, the expectation for the Blue Devils will be national championship or bust.

Nick Pietras

Nick Pietras has been coaching lacrosse in the city of Detroit since 2019. He currently serves as the assistant creative director creating content and helping manage the image of Detroit United. He is currently attending Lourdes University pursuing a double major in marketing and business administration. Over the course of his senior year, Nick would tear both of his ACL’s leaving him to miss his senior season. He would play for the Lourdes University Gray Wolves for one year before his lingering knee injuries would abruptly end his college career. This is where his coaching career officially began as he became the offensive coordinator for his alma mater, Cousino High School. He would be one of the main influencers in the creation of Warren Consolidated Schools joint high school program and would oversee fundraising, marketing, and design endeavors. Six months later, Nick would be brought to Detroit to join the Cass Tech High School men’s lacrosse coaching staff as the defensive coordinator.
