Alex Woodall Signs With Atlanta Blaze

Atlanta has a new superstar. The Atlanta Blaze and Alex Woodall have agreed upon a deal that will put Woodall in a Blaze uniform for the foreseeable future. Woodall was drafted first overall in the 2019 MLL Draft, and was acquired by the Blaze in the relocation draft. The move reunites Woodall with former Towson great and current Blaze Director of Player Personnel, Spencer Ford.

Woodall, a Maryland native, played his freshman year at High Point University before transferring to Towson. Woodall developed into a faceoff specialist for the Tigers. Woodall won nearly 65% of draws in his time in at Towson. Woodall is one of two players in Towson history to win 500 or more faceoffs. In addition, Woodall picked up 156 ground balls last season. While not much of a scorer, Woodall scored 8 goals and 8 assists during his college career.

The accolades are extensive for Alex Woodall including being named First Team All CAA in 2017 as well as being named to the CAA All Tournament Team in 2017.

Woodall’s college career came to a close last weekend as Towson lost to Maryland 14-13 in the NCAA Lacrosse First Round. Woodall had a dominant showing going 22-31 in the faceoff circle and picked up 14 ground balls.

The addition gives Atlanta another strong player in the faceoff circle after Atlanta led MLL with a .529 faceoff percentage last season.

The move punctuates a good offseason for the Blaze which saw the team resign the experienced Tommy Palasek, defensemen Liam Byrnes, and goalie Chris Madalon. The team also signed rookies TJ Comizio, Brett Craig, and Jack Mangan.

Woodall is expected to make his MLL debut in the Blaze’s season opener against the defending champion Denver Outlaws on June 2nd. Atlanta is looking to improve on a franchise best 7-7 record which saw the Blaze miss out on the playoffs last season. Atlanta hopes to qualify for the postseason for the first time since being founded in 2016. Tickets for Blaze games are available now at http://www.atlantablaze.com/tickets.
