CUFLA Week 5 Preview

Four weeks complete, four weeks to go. CUFLA has reached the midway point of the 2014 regular season in the chase for the Baggataway Cup. In the West, traditional power Brock Badgers (5-0) have separated themselves from the pack while the East Division teams continue to chase McGill (8-0).

Week 4 saw the division leaders facing their rivals, with both coming out on top. Brock picked up a 12-9 victory at Western (4-2) to sweep the season series. The Redmen faced their toughest test of the season so far at Bishop’s, holding on to win 8-7.

While division titles are still undecided, the chase for the second spot in each division tightened last week. The Mustangs bounced back from their loss to Brock with a convincing 18-3 win over McMaster while the Toronto Varsity Blues (3-2) dominated visiting Laurentian (4-2) to get into the chase. Western will host Toronto in a key matchup this weekend.

Eastern teams Bishop’s (4-2) and Carleton (5-2) have each faced (and lost) the Redmen twice already. The focus for both will be on the other teams in the remaining four weeks. The Gaels are on the road this week to face Trent (2-5) and Queen’s (4-3) while the Ravens host Queen’s on Saturday.
