This covers the protective pieces that sit outside the main pad categories — mouthguards, rib pads, athletic protection, and padded accessories. Mouthguards are mandatory at every sanctioned level of play and are the single cheapest piece of required equipment; rib pads are optional and worn mostly by attackmen and goalies who take body contact in traffic.
