Last week, we had a bunch of games and an SELC focused roundup. This week’s is the exact opposite in both size and area of the country.
Last Week
Charlotte @ #10 Elon
Charlotte dropped the ball, and their shot at making the SELC tournament for a 4th straight year. Final Score: 12-8
#18 Emory @ #17 Kennesaw State
Kennesaw shocked the SELC taking Emory, a typical mainstay in the tournament, out the title contention. Final Score: 11-8
#16 UC Santa Cruz @ #22 Concordia
The Eagles hosted a barbecue for the Banana Slugs, but Santa Cruz didn’t play nice and got the 9-8 win.
Charlotte @ Coastal Carolina
Charlotte dominated face-offs and took control from there. Final Score: 13-5
Coast Guard Academy @ #19 Briarcliffe
Nothing surprising here. Briarcliffe stays undefeated at 4-0 with the 18-12 win.
#10 Elon @ Appalachian State
Elon secured the #2 seed in the SELC tournament with a 12-7 win.
This Week
We’re going to the UMLL for one game and one game only.
The Tommie-Johnnie game.
There is no bigger regular season game each year. In the entire MCLA. Yeah, I said it. Deal with it.
So many different things play into this game every year. Last year, the Tommies won all but one game en route to a title. The loss? Johnnies.
Both teams are, more often than not, undefeated going into this game. This year, St. John’s will be heading into the game with a 9-2 with losses to Davenport and Dayton, which we discussed when it happened. They also suffered a loss in an early season scrimmage with Minnesota State – Mankato, but that’s not important.
The Tommies, on the other hand, are undefeated. A perfect 7-0, in addition to an early season scrimmage win @ Augsburg. Granted, St. Thomas hasn’t faced a tough schedule. I won’t deny that. They haven’t challenged themselves this year. Their closes game was a 15-10 win over Grand Valley State, who is a legitimate Top 5 team, if not Top 3. All their other games have been blowouts. 24-3. 16-1. 19-4. 21-2
Game of the Week:
#1 St. Thomas Tommies at #4 St. John’s Johnnies
Gametime at 1PM on Sat, 4/17 at Clemens Stadium on the campus of St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN.
If I were back home, I’d make a point to see this game. Can St. Thomas become the second MCLA team to run the table?
I’ll leave you with some photos off the Tommie website.
I think you know who I’m picking.
