Mustang Classic: D2+D3 Weekend Recap

One of the best weekends of the year in terms of Division 3 Lacrosse. The Mustang Classic was back and in full force this year with one of the best weekends of lacrosse of the year. Kudos to Coach Cantabene and the Stevenson Athletic Department for hosting the event and bringing in some of the best programs Division 3 has to offer. To bring in all of the teams is one things, but to get them to agree to play back to back is something completely different. The Mustang Classic is a lacrosse enthusiast’s dream and something everyone looks forward to every year.

Coaches Poll: USILA Week 6

D3 Weekend Recap

#4 Christopher Newport (17) – #7 Lynchburg (13)

Two southern powerhouses going at it in a game that didn’t disappoint. The offensive and defensive firepower was on full display. CNU jumped out to a huge 13-4 lead midway through the 3rd quarter and withstood a Lynchburg rally to give them two Top 10 wins on the weekend. CNU is on a collision course with Salisbury in the C2C and everyone better have April 16th marked on their calendar.

#17 Amherst (18) – #10 Gettysburg (14)

The Mammoths used a 2nd quarter run to blow open the game for them and take one away from the Bullets who went 0-2 this weekend, but are still very much alive in the national picture. Faceoffs were the difference as the Mammoths controlled possession by winning 27 of 36 faceoffs.

#11 Dickinson (11) – #16 Stevenson (10)

The game of the weekend was Friday night’s matchup between the Red Devils and the Mustangs. Stevenson had upset on their minds and nearly walked away with a huge win against a surefire Top Ten team this week, but Dickinson had other plans. Dickinson used a tremendous ride that held Stevenson to 17-24 on the clears to help get them extra possessions and they were able to walk away with a close win on a goal from Freshman Matt Thurston with 1:45 left in the contest.

D2 Weekend Recap

Anderson (14) – #3 Wingate (12)

At this point in the season, this game may be in serious consideration for upset of the year. The key stat here is faceoffs as Anderson boasts one of the top faceoff men in the country in Cam Weeks who went 22-29 in this one. Anderson used a huge 2nd and 3rd quarter to create some separation from the Bulldogs and hung tight defensively in the 4th to give them the biggest win in their young program’s history.

#16 Florida Southern (12) – #1 Le Moyne (10)

Buyer beware because when you go into the Snake Pit there’s a chance you’re going to get bit and that’s exactly what happened to Le Moyne. A huge back and forth battle between two very good teams went the way of the Moccasins and gave them their biggest win in Marty Ward’s tenure. This is a team that has tremendous amounts of talent and been working towards a moment like this. Jeff Atlas’ goal in the final minutes sealed it for the Mocs as they have proven they can play with anyone and beat them.
