Nationwide Indiscretions: The SELC D2
It’s about time to take a look at some schedules, don’t you think?
I’m gonna try to gander at every schedule in the country. All 100+ D2 teams. And rate them based on no particular set of criteria. But to make it simple, we’ll go only by each teams out of conference schedule. For the heck of it, I’ll pick my 16 tournament teams while I’m at it. We’ll go conference by conference, making our way around the country.
Let’s start off at home, with my team, the Spartans of UNC Greensboro. Since we’d join the SELC if we were MCLA, We’ll look at our non-SELC schedule.
2/6 vs Wofford
2/6 vs Winthrop. We’ll also be playing SVU that day, all in Rock Hill, SC
2/27 vs Carnegie Mellon at SVU. Another 3 game day for us where we’ll play SVU and App State.
3/27 we will play Johnson and Wales at home.
4/18 at High Point. HPU is a former SELC member as recently as last season.
While not trying to give anyone bulletin board material for our games, I gotta rate this OOC sked as a D+, only for the inclusion of Carnegie Mellon. I can totally understand playing all the independent teams, though, seeing as we are one.
From here on out, if UNCG is on a teams schedule, I’m including that in the OOC.
2/27 vs UNCG and Carnegie Mellon. Also playing divisional game vs SVU. All at SVU
3/6 vs Aquinas
3/19 @ High Point
4/17 vs Wofford at Furman. Also playing Furman.
5 games, 2 true Out-of-Conference games. Meets the MCLA minimums. Gotta rate it at least a C for that. Got two team from the CCLA making the trip down. I’ll give em a C+ for the effort.
3/11 vs Aquinas.
How can you not convince teams from up north to visit the beach? Fix this problem, please. D-
2/18 @ UNCG
2/6 vs UNC(NCLL)
2/12 @ Dayton
2/13 @ Grove City
3/1 vs John Carroll
Those first three games are the first three games of the season for Elon. They’ll know right away if they need to win the SELC to make it to Denver. A.
2/19 vs Missouri State
2/21 vs Davenport
3/27 vs Harding
Love the scheduling here. Got an up and coming team who could make some noise. A powerhouse. And an older power who could make some noise. Gotta be an A. SELC’s top teams know how to schedule for Denver.
4/17 vs Wofford.
1/30 vs College of Charleston
3/12 vs Wofford.
And 4 games vs MCLA D1 competition. Auburn, Alabama, Miami, and Georgia Tech. B-
1/31 @ Limestone (NCAA)
2/20 vs College of Charleston at Citadel
3/7 vs Stonehill at PBA
Gotta win the SELC to go to Denver, but I like scheduling an NCAA team. C+
2/20 vs Missouri State
2/22 vs Davenport
3/7 @ St. Edward’s
3/8 @ Sam Houston State
3/9 @ Centenary
3/28 vs Harding
I give you a golf clap, Owls. A
2/6 @ Florida Gulf Coast
3/6 vs Stonehill
C-. Stonehill saved you.
2/12 @ Grove City
2/13 @ Dayton
2/20 vs Davenport at KSU
2/21 vs Missouri State at Emory
3/21 vs Middle Tennessee St
3/31 vs Oberlin(NCAA)
4/10 vs Wofford
Brutal February. A+
2/6 vs UNCG, vs Wofford, vs Winthrop
2/27 vs UNCG, vs Carnegie Mellon
3/9 vs Aquinas
4/1 @ High Point
Gotta give them credit. They went out and got the MCLA minimum. C+
2/13 vs Lees McRae (NCAA)
2/21 vs Harding
2/28 vs Indiana. Not really an OOC game, but they somehow got a D1 team to schedule them on a trip. Well done.
I’ll give it a C+
3/6 vs Wofford
3/31 vs College of Charleston
D. Schedule more. And make them true OOC games, please.
2/20 vs UNCG
2/21 vs Wofford
2/27 vs John Carroll
D. I see the effort. See above.
Eckerd Tritons, Reinhardt Eagles, North Florida all get an F for not scheduling an OOC game at all.
Fix that please. You get one of these.
Yes. I blatantly stole that from 412. But it’s well deserved.
Overall, I’d give the SELC a C+. Need to work on that scheduling, sirs. I do like what I see in terms of true OOC games. Davenport, Stonehill, Dayton, Missouri State, Harding. Let’s keep it up.
- Exceptionally long winter break at UNCG. Last day of class in the fall is Dec 16. First day of class in the spring is Jan 19. Gotta love it.
- It’s way too cold in North Carolina. I should be used to this because I’m from Minnesota, but…..DAMN IT’S COLD!
- ACC football is wack.
- Ke$ha. Guilty pleasure of the week.
Next time: PCLL gets a look.
