Editor’s Note: Thanks to the help of the innovative team at SISU Guard, the Official Mouthguard of the NLL, we are beefing up our National Lacrosse League coverage for 2016! We hope you enjoy our look at the NLL season through a new lens with the aid of our partner SISU!
I hope you’ve got you helmet handy, this week is going to be a doozy. To get you fired up for this weekend’s slate of lacrosse games, already kicked off by a Knighthawks win over the Rock, we have a smorgasbord of highlights for your viewing feast. There aren’t a ton of snipes on this list, things got crafty last week!
Dhane Smith scores a game-winner for the Bandits
What better way to kick off this list than with a game-winning goal?! The Bandits found a way to get it done last week and the last nail in the coffin was punch in by the monstrous Dhane Smith. He led Buffalo to their first win of the season with two goals and three helpers on Saturday night. There will be more this season where that came from.
Not one, but two Johnny Powless highlights
Johnny Powless has been off to a hot start in 2016, racking up 11 points on 6 goals 5 assists in two games. The Swarm are extremely young, it’s not secret, so guys like Powless are being relied upon to bring their benches up to speed and lead by example. This is a role it looks like Johnny is picking up and running away with after he’s struggled a bit to keep his head above water since leaving Rochester.
Shawn Evans does something crazy, because he’s Shawn Evans
I stood 10-20 yards away from this play and it looked just as insane in-person. The reigning league MVP looked in mid-season form when he took the floor for the first time in a Black Wolves sweater. New England failed to make the playoffs last year and offseason moves brought one of the NLL’s greatest to the East Coast. Outscoring their opponent 17-7, the team looks deep across the board.
Young Eli McLaughlin throws it down on the road
Diving toward his farside pipe from behind, McLaughlin reaches out to tuck the ball in the nearside top corner. Over two games, the second year lefty has 3 goals and 2 assists to go along with Colorado’s 2-0 record. That Mammoth train is going to keep chugging.
The rookie Graeme Hossack had a night in debut
Before the Knighthawks got their first win last night, they dropped one to the Mammoth at home. The game wasn’t all bad, the massive rookie Graeme Hossack had no problem getting up to game speed. Hossack found twine twice in his debut, a great sign for an already proven offense.
Snipe city from Stephen Keogh
After raking in a career-high 71 points two years back, Keogh struggled to crack 20 in 2015. Things are looking good so far for the veteran and his stick appears to be dialed in. Need proof? Here’s your stinkin’ proof!
Cory Vitarelli delivers 1st Class Airmail
I love watching this kind of goal because I can’t score them myself. Vitarelli displayed serious strength by elevating that high on the crease, maintaining composure, delaying his shot, then burying the rock at the opportune moment. This was just one of his three goals in the game. Legit.
ECD Drops a Top 10 of Week 2
Some of these you’ve probably watch above, some you haven’t. So count it down, kids!
Even more goodies from Lax.com
There’s a variety of goals and other highlights in this little package, you might as well just watch it to get your total NLL fix.
Last night! Brett Hickey threw down a dunk with crazy control
This is the second time you see Matt Vinc getting dunked on, but at least it was the following week. Coming from the other side and draped with a defender, the Rock’s Brett Hickey was able to find a goal amongst another lackluster showing from Toronto. The Hawks got their first win, but Hickey got the highlight…
This week the Toronto Rock opened up the Toronto Stock Exchange
That wasn’t awkward or anything…. Oh well, it’s good for lax. But do you really think there’s anything behind the monitor? I bet no.
I’ll just leave this here…
