The Matchup

The Buckeyes are ranked No. 19 in this week’s Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, while Notre Dame comes in at No. 13 in men’s college lacrosse with a 2-2 record having wins over Cleveland State and Richmond, but losses to top-tier teams Maryland and Denver.

Ohio State, on the other hand, has four wins on the year from facing Detroit Mercy, Boston University, Bucknell and Hofstra, and having lost to both Cornell and UMass.

Jack Myers and Tre Leclaire lead the Buckeyes scoring attack, each with 28 points on the season. Notre Dame has relied on Pat Kavanagh and Griffin Westlin for offensive production, but its been the Notre Dame defense that has provided the biggest support, holding teams to seven or fewer goals in each of its two wins. They say the best defense is a good offense, and that would likely help share the load for the Irish.

This is a game where anything can happen, and from a paper perspective all signs point to mayhem. Can the Notre Dame defense lock things down enough to hold off Ohio State, or will the Irish offense be able to step up and put up a more consistent point production? Can Ohio State pick up what would at this point arguably be its biggest win of the season?
