Springfield, VA (May 4, 2023) – The St. James is proud to announce a series of new events aimed at college athletes who enter the transfer portal. These events are designed to provide high-level coaching from non-NCAA coaches and game play that can then be shared with coaches for an up-to-date measure of the individual’s skill. “Colleges and coaches do a great job aiding high school athletes on the path to college, but the process hasn’t adapted to create clear paths for college athletes who want to continue to play their sport, but at a different college or university,” said Stephy Samaras, Director of Sports Business Development for The St. James.
The first in the series of The Portal events for The St. James will be for men’s and women’s collegiate lacrosse players. The event will include a sponsorship from Gait Lacrosse and feature high-level coaching from a handful of their sponsored athletes.
Our coaches and mentors for this event have a combined resume of collegiate coaching, National and World Cup Championships, professional lacrosse experience, as well as even using the transfer portal themselves as college athletes. We are working with Fivestar to provide the best experience. “Fivestar is committed to showcasing the achievements of athletes across all levels of competition and we are excited to be partnering with The Portal to help these great athletes continue pursuing their goal of playing college lacrosse” said Kyle Harrison, SVP of Strategic Partnerships for Fivestar and former Johns Hopkins lacrosse player, Tewaaraton Winner, 2X USA National Team Player and professional lacrosse legend.
In addition to the great lacrosse being played on the field, The St. James also understands that the decision for an athlete to transfer from one institution to another is a huge life transition. They have called in Real Frequency to help athletes receive the tools to better manage the transition process. Real Frequency is a Launch Agency focused on helping young adults take positive control of their scholastic and professional paths. They work with college and professional athletes and special forces operatives for all branches of the military, helping them with the mental performance, strengths discovery and other components of effective career management.
“The St. James wants all athletes to succeed,” said Samaras. “This event is dedicated to the complete athlete. We want to showcase their talent with great coaches who support them, great film that they can share with college coaches and a reminder that the sport is meant to be fun.”
The Portal event dates for lacrosse will be May 30 & 31, 2023 for the men’s event and June 1 & 2, 2023 for the women’s event. Football and men’s and women’s basketball Portal events are slated for next year.
