Vail Lacrosse Shootout Returns in 2021

The Vail Lacrosse Shootout is one of lacrosse’s marquee summer events. After a one-year hiatus because of COVID-19, the legendary tournament is back on and currently in progress.

Ocean City, Placid, Hawaii, and Vail – these are the four tournaments I think about when discussing adult lacrosse. They all have their own history and prestige and provide unique experiences for their players. And while they are all incredibly special, to me, Vail stands at the top.

As the oldest of the four tournaments, Vail has a special place in many peoples’ hearts. Not only did the event play a pivotal role in expanding lacrosse west, it also helped the game progress by experimenting with various rules like a shot clock, for example.

Who Plays Here?

Vail rosters consist of some of the greatest names to ever play the game. In years past, there have been countless current and former professionals playing across multiple divisions. One of the unique things about the tournament is that the age groups range from U-19 to Men’s Zenmasters. Rarely are we fortunate enough to see this many generations of lacrosse in one location.

A Family Affair

The tournament has been a family affair for the past 50 years, relying on the work of passionate and selfless volunteers to make the historic event run.

Get a Team Together

Next year, Vail turns 50, and it is sure to be a celebration. The number and quality of teams that will come to celebrate the 50th anniversary will be intense, which means if you want to take part in this iconic event, you’ll have to get a team together and register as soon as this September.
