Varsity Club Lacrosse Performance of the Week: Week 4

VARSITY CLUB LACROSSE

Four players of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) garner Varsity Club Lacrosse Performance of the Week Award nominations. The nominations count for the week ending with Feb. 27. Lacrosse fans have witnessed some incredible goalie performances so far in the 2022 season. It is no surprise that the list includes two goalies this week.

Varsity Club Lacrosse Performance of the Week Nominees

Tyler Schweickert (Goalie, Concordia-Irvine)

Sean Tariche (Midfield, Clemson)

Bostin Preisler (Goalie, Utah State)

Cade Poe (Faceoff, Concordia-Irvine)

It is often the specialist positions that make or break a lacrosse game. Junior goalie Tyler Schweickert and sophomore faceoff specialist Cade Poe both were up for the task.

Schweickert posted 22 saves against Cal Berkeley earning him MCLA Division I Pearl Player of the Week. His teammate, Caden Poe, picked up 13 ground balls and scored one goal in the contest. The Eagles of Concordia University Irvine are off to a hot start this season posting a record of 4-0 thus far. Going forward, they have a competitive schedule but impact players like Schweickert and Poe will certainly put them in the best place to succeed.

Sean Tariche, a junior, tallied eight goals, three assists, and five ground balls between two games against Georgia and Georgia Tech. Tariche was nominated as the MCLA Division I Warrior Player of the Week. With a 7-0 start to the season, teams should prepare well if they have the Clemson Tigers on their schedule in the future. The Tigers will need to rely on performances like Tariche’s to stay undefeated.

In a monster effort to help win two games for Utah State, Boston Preisler saved over 70 percent of shots that came his way. The junior helped the Aggies defeat North Dakota State and St. Thomas; both Top 10 teams in MCLA Division II. Preisler has been named MCLA Pearl Lacrosse Goalie of the Week.
