Talkin’ MCLA D2 With A Cameo By Emilio Estevez

D2Editor’s note: At Lax All Stars, we always love when readers come to us with great ideas and a passion to grow the coverage of the game. The Lax came along and wanted to see more MCLA Division 2 content on the site, and we decided he fit in with our motley crew like peas and carrots. Give him a big LAS welcome for his first post.

If you’re like me, when someone mentions D2, you think of the second largest division of Men’s college lacrosse. But I’m gonna guess that your first thought is along the lines of Emilio Estevez and ice hockey.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to change your views ever so slightly. With this post, I give you LAS’s first foray into MCLA Division 2 coverage.

Biggest news of the off-season has got to be the expansion of the National Championship tournament in Denver. Going from 12 to 16 teams gives the MCLA’s largest division a chance to show itself off on a big stage. More on this later.

Another big event that I’m personally looking forward to is the first big regular season tournament, to my knowledge, in D2.

The Vegas Full House Face Off pits 8 of the best teams from the left side of the country in 3 games of great non-conference action. You’ll see Biola, Western Oregon, Westminster, UC Santa Cruz, Fullerton, Utah Valley, Northern Arizona, and Western Washington. All in all, not a bad field. My one gripe about the tournament is the lack of national competition. Where are the Elon’s, the Grand Valley’s, the Saint Thomas’? I want to see some eastward expansion if this comes back next year.

My pick: Westminster over Utah Valley in the final.

January
Everyone loves January

Insert Witty Title Here:

  • Very few press releases from the D2 side. This disappoints me greatly.
  • Haven’t heard much about fall ball. But then again, it’s just fall ball.
  • Any clue who plays in the first game of the season? I’ve been trying to figure it out.
  • Can the Tommies pull a Michigan? I think so.
  • TCU got jobbed. #1 reason why I hate the BCS.
  • Gonna be a slow month in the MCLA world. January can’t come soon enough.

Let’s hope the season provides this much sizzle.

Yeah…the first post was short and sweet.

#2 will see the results of a short Q&A session with Charlotte Head Coach Josh DuVall and how he sees the year ahead.
