Welcome to the Ultimate AK Savo Stringing Contest, hosted by LaxAllStars, and brought to you by the incomparable Bob Savage!
Savage, creator of the now infamous AK Savo pocket, is hosting a stringing contest, and he asked us to help him out and post the rules, some inspiration, and the winners when they are announced. Savo has lined up an unreal prize pack for the TWO WINNERS (there are two contests after all), and we’re pumped to see a bunch of the most respected brands out there involved!
The Ultimate AK Savo Stringing Contest
Like I said above, you have two different contest at work. Here are the details for both contest! Both involved stringing pockets, and uploading photos to Instagram with specific hashtags. It couldn’t be any more simple!
Contest #1 – OG AK Savo Replica Challenge:
– You can use any type of head, and use any type of mesh, but you need to replicate the ORIGINAL AK Savo Pocket as perfectly as you can. Once you have strung up your perfect AK Savo replica, you need to upload a photo to Instagram with the tag:
#LASOGAKSAVO – make sure you tag @laxallstars and @wazzupsavo as well!
– The photo should include THREE angles: A shot of the back of the stick, a shot of the side of the stick, and one more of your choice!
– Provide details on the head you used, the type of mesh you used, and any thoughts you have on the pocket.
Contest #2 – AK Savo Variant:
For AKSAVO variants, which are variations and individual interpretations based upon the idea of the AKSAVO pocket, Savo wants you to get as creative as you can! Any type of head is okay, and any type of mesh is ok as well. You can even use any number of diamond mesh… 5,6,7,8,10 and goalie mesh too… it’s all open!
In the variant category, judges will be looking for intelligent adaptations and new ideas that add overall value to the existing AK Savo concept. We’re pumped to see what you guys come up with!
– Load the photo up to Instagram and provide three angles (back, side, other) in the photo. Pictures in this category must be hit with the hashtag #LASAKSAVOVAR
– Provide details on the head you used, the type of mesh you used, and any thoughts you have on the pocket.
Timing And Deadlines
You have just under one month to string up your pockets for both contests. Entries are due by March 15th, and winners will be announced by March 30th!
We will feature some finalists’ entries right here on LAS and announce the winners as well!
The Glorious Prizes!
The winner of EACH contest (the replica, and the variant) will receive a Hawk head from Epoch Lacrosse AND a C30 shaft, also from Epoch Lacrosse! THAT is a prize worth coveting!
There will also be 14 honorable mention winners. The judges will pick seven in each of the two categories:
Each of the 14 honorable mention winners will recieve a complete AKSAVO stringing kit. The kit will include two 5′ pieces of cross lace, top string, bottom string, and a piece of mesh from one of the mesh sponsors: Prodigy, East Coast Mesh, JimaLax, Redstar Lacrosse, Ninja Lax, Stringer’s Shack, LaxRoom, and Savo Mesh!

Who can enter? It’s open as open can be. It’s up to the judges who they choose!
How do you string an AK Savo? You can google that! There are lots of videos, posts, etc online, so find your resources and get to work. To get you started, here’s a nice diagram:
