2018 Final FIL Standings Vs 2014 FIL Rankings

It’s time to talk about some 2018 FIL Standings biggest improvements! Who’s the best in the world? And who is improving rapidly?

It’s time to talk about some 2018 FIL Standings biggest improvements! Which teams made the biggest moves up the current standings when we compare them to the 2014 FIL final standings placements? Which teams dropped? Which teams pretty much stayed the same?

It’s always interesting to look for programs on the rise, or programs that seem to be falling away a little. Let’s take a look at all this, via a neat little system!

I will supply the following info for each team:

Country – 2014 Final Rank – 2018 Final Rank – Directional +/-

RED – teams that dropped 8 spots or more
ORANGE – Teams that dropped 2-7 spots
GREY – Teams that moved up, or down, by 1 spot or stayed the same
BLUE – Teams that move up 2-5 spots
GREEN – Teams that move up 6 spots or more
PURPLE – New teams to the FIL WLC

First we will look at the 2018 Final Standings, and which teams moved up and down. Then we will look at the 2014 standings, and see which teams moved up and down. It’s the same info and numbers, just presented in two different ways. It’s interesting to see it all laid out like that, don’t you think?

Keep in mind that with new teams doing well in this year’s event and the field expanding so drastically, more established programs were bound to fall more often than they were to rise. Here’s the new world order. It’s not all that different from the old world order.

2014 Final Rankings Vs 2018 Final FIL Standings

Note: 2014 Rankings are final, 2018 are not final yet. In 2014, two teams were moved down to the bottom of the rankings due to eligibility issues after the tournament had ended. I am comparing that final ranking, after the teams were moved down, to how teams have finished in 2018. This is a note to say that 2018 final world rankings could hypothetically change. The numbers are a little dif

New FIL Teams

Ranked by Final Finish in 2018!

Puerto Rico – 8th Place
Philippines – 10th Place
Jamaica – 13th Place
Greece – 19th Place
Hungary – 28th Place
Peru – 39th Place
Taiwan – 41st Place
Croatia – 43rd Place
Luxembourg – 46th Place

Look at that! If you finish with an odd numbered placement, it means you won your last game… and that means that Jamaica, Peru, Taiwan, and Croatia all won their last games of the tourney. Finishing strong in your first go ’round is always good!

Congrats to all the teams for competing this year and giving it their all. 2022 is not that far away and with qualifying events on the horizon only two years from now, the work begins almost immediately. Take a day. Take a week. But then get back to it. That’s just how this thing works now.
