Summer Tournament Series: Vail Shootout Updates Trickling In
Along with the excellent coverage that the Vail Shootout itself provides, LAS has operatives all over the place out in Colorado and when big things happen, you’ll know about it.
The Rundown On New Princeton Head Coach Chris Bates
Princeton has made their selection for their next Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach and I must say they chose (drumroll please)… wisely. Chris Bates is the perfect fit for Princeton. Let me count the ways:
More Lacrossetralia Photo Madness: Wembley Pounds Phoenix LC
As the summer rolls on here in the old US of A, club lax season is in full tilt mode down in Western Australia. The Wembley Wolves continued to dominate the WA Smokefree State League and dismantled the Phoenix Lacrosse Club in their latest game. They started out pretty tight with Wembley leading 4-3 after the first quarter but things got ugly soon after as Wembley took an 11-5 lead into halftime and really poured it on in the second half with a final score of 30-6. Yes, 30 to 6, I did not e-stutter.
MLL All-Stars Announced For Denver 2009
In 2005 and 2006 the MLL went with the “Young Guns” vs “Old School” approach to their All-Star game. In 2007 and 2008, the league reverted back to the standard East vs. West methodolgy. In 2009, they have again made the switch to the YGs vs the OSers and the game will be played at Denver’s Invesco Field on July 16th, a Thursday.
Western Lacrossestralia – Wembley v. East Freo
In Western Australia, East Fremantle has long been regarded as the top club side for men’s lacrosse. Before East Freo’s rise to prominence, Wembley Lacrosse Club was probably the top side in the WALA [Western Australia Lacrosse Assoc.] so anytime these two clubs get together for a game, the intensity and importance is guaranteed to be at the absolute highest level.
Princeton Pandemonium: Dave Metzbower Turns Down Job
Last week I wrote an article about Head Coach Bill Tierney leaving Princeton for Denver and how this was a good move for everyone. Last week I was also operating under the belief that Dave Metzbower, Tierney’s top assistant for 20 years, would take over the esteemed Tiger program. I was wrong.
Princeton Coach Bill Tierney Heads To Denver
Longtime (22 years!) Princeton Men’s Lacrosse Coach, Bill Tierney, is leaving Princeton to take over the reins at Denver. I looked at some of the lax.com comments and people seemed to be VERY confused as to why this would happen but when you look a little bit deeper, the move starts to make a lot of sense for pretty much everyone involved.
Summer Lax Tourney Series: War on the Shore – Long Island!
Long Island is a hot bed area for lacrosse. Always has been and always will be. However, what always struck me as weird was the lack of quality lacrosse tournaments over the summer on “the Island”.
USA National Lacrosse Team – Who Makes the Cut?
The ILF (International Lacrosse Federation) will hold the Men’s Lacrosse World Championships from July 10-24th, 2010 in the English City of Manchester and countries across the world are putting their best through the tryout paces.
Gotham Lacrosse League – Summer Preview!
This summer 3 of your favorite LAS reps (Wheniwasakid, Mr. Blue Sky and Striding Man) will be playing in the Gotham Lacrosse League in New York City for the Southampton Brewery team.
New Gait Helmet: Grait Debait Rages On!
A few weeks back I picked up a navy blue Gait Helmet, tried it out and offered up my product review, which can be found right here, and got a LOT of feedback. Most of the feedback related to how downright ugly the Gait helmets were and although I disagreed with some of the statements, Gait seems to have been listening because they unveiled a completely redesigned helmet last Satruday as UVA took the field against Cornell.
An Indecent Proposal for College Lacrosse
Look at the sidelines of a lacrosse game today and you will see an interesting phenomenon that for years was only a staple of that other spring sport, baseball: good athletes standing around…doing nothing.
