Crazy. Well, for us East Coasters anyway. The West Coast lax crew probably shakes off earthquakes like they’re nothing, but our sensibilities are a bit more wary along the Eastern Seaboard, so when we get whacked with a little 5.9 5.8 magnitude quake, it rattles us.
My apartment was swinging towards the street and then away, maybe by 1-2 inches, at most. It was a weird sensation and at first, I actually thought that they were just doing heavy work on the roof of the building. Guess not! Everyone ran outside and I immediately got on twitter. I learned it was centered down in Virginia and was a 5.9-6.0 5.8 on the Richter Scale. Some people were freaking out a little. Most were smiling, and happy that they could experience nature’s force without suffering any damage. We did hear a number of sirens but as far as we walked, we didn’t seen any destruction. Mostly just people who had experienced their first earthquake.
As the initial shock and adrenaline wears off, my thoughts go South, to areas where the quake may have been felt more strongly. I hope all the laxers out there (and everyone else of course!) is safe and that damage was minimal. East Coast Earthquake. Been there. Done that.
Here are some tweets from the lax world:
And the guys over at Inside Lacrosse snapped a couple evacuation pics near the Baltimore Aquarium. Crazy… we hope they’re ALL okay!
