New York Riptide Signs Dan MacRae

The New York Riptide announced today that the team has signed defenseman Dan MacRae to a two-year contract after MacRae was selected in the Expansion Draft.

The New York Riptide announced today that the team has signed defenseman Dan MacRae to a two-year contract.

“I am honored to join the New York Riptide, and humbled that Coach Thorpe and his staff selected me in the Expansion Draft to join this new organization,” said Dan MacRae. “From my time in New York during college I know it’s a hotbed for lacrosse and I am excited to get going and play in front of the passionate New York and Long Island fans.”

Added Regy Thorpe, Head Coach and General Manager for the Riptide: “We are thrilled to welcome Dan to the Riptide. To get someone with his experience and leadership is a big win for our organization. We want to build our team with not only great talent, but also great locker room guys and Dan certainly checks that box. The fans and community of New York and Long Island are going to love his workman like attitude and will especially love the prove people wrong chip on his shoulder he brings to the field. The Riptide selected MacRae in the fourth round of the 2019 NLL Expansion Draft. The nine-year NLL veteran has played 145 games with the Calgary Roughnecks recording 100 points. MacRae, a 6-1, 202-pound defenseman, was team captain for the last two seasons, including the 2018-19 Championship team. He was the Roughnecks’ first round pick, sixth overall in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft. MacRae has New York ties, having attended Rochester Institute of Technology.

“I also want to thank the entire Roughnecks organization for the incredible past nine years,” said MacRae. “Leaving Calgary, where I have played my entire career, is bittersweet, but what an incredible send off by winning the Championship last season.”

The NLL awarded the New York franchise to live events and sports media entertainment company GF Sports in December 2018. The Riptide will play home games at NYCB LIVE, Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum when it begins play in December for the 2019-20 NLL season.
