Music Monday: Taking It G-Eazy

G Eazy

A friend of mine turned me onto Oakland-born rapper G-Eazy a couple of years ago after he teamed up with Hoodie Allen for “Lady Killers,” which was featured on his 2012 album Must Be Nice. I ended up seeing the two perform together in Boston earlier this year, which was a treat to say the least. Ever since, I’ve been loosely following this laid back, stylish rapper and noticed that he has been pumping out singles over the last few months.

Music Monday: 2013 Isn’t Done Yet!

Busta Rhymes & Q-Tip - The Abstract and The Dragon

Welcome back LAS! This year has been a pretty good one for music (especially hip-hop) but it’s not quite over yet. Just when I started looking forward to some of next years releases, I ran into a project that slipped under my radar. Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip’s of A Tribe Called Quest recently collaborated and dropped a mixtape titled The Abstract & The Dragon.

Music Monday: The DNA of Music

Vinyl Records

This week I decided to share a few songs that we’ve been listening in the office. Rather than throwing you guys some completely random tracks, I decided to pick a few with some prominent samples. I really enjoy samples because they can be a great way to discover new music, provide a sense of familiarity, shed some light on an artist’s influences, or simply give something new life. Samples can also cause headaches for artists as clearing them for albums is often a challenge. As you’ve probably noticed, some samples are more noticeable than others.

Music Monday: Cus It’s The Remix Edition

Music Monday Chance the Rapper

Hot and fresh out the kitchen! Yes, it’s that time of the week again. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and start to Hanukkah. Since I’m sure all of you were remixing your Thanksgiving dinners into leftover sandwiches and stews all weekend, I figured it was a great week to bring you some chopped […]

Music Monday: King Remembered In Time

Big K.R.I.T. Music Monday Featured Image

Justin Scott aka Big K.R.I.T. is a rapper/producer hailing from Meridian, Mississippi. A member of the 2011 XXL Freshmen class, K.R.I.T. brings the flavor of the South along with passion and plenty of bass. One of my favorite quotes by K.R.I.T. is “If it don’t touch my SOUL, I can’t listen to it.” In other words, why bother listening to empty music with no message? Take a listen and be sure to turn up that sub!

Music Monday: Off the Main-stream

Good Monday to all the Lax All Stars across the globe! With Tom and Peyton grappling for NFL legend status and Kanye and Miley battling for the controversy spotlight, I thought it would be appropriate to stay off the beaten path for another Music Monday.

Music Monday: Cover This

Welcome back to another Music Monday LAS! A few weeks ago LAS contributor Josh Rottman passed a video along. It’s a cover of Allen Stone’s “Bed I Made” by Jules Houts. Jules played at UC Davis along with Josh. I really enjoyed the cover wanted to share it along with a few other covers. Take a listen!

Music Monday: Passafire

Passafire Music Monday

To close out your Monday, we’re coming through with a great new reggae-rock album by Georgia’s own Passafire. This band formed back in 2003 when a bunch of college kids got together and started experimenting with their sound, which has evolved into something on the edgier side of that chill alternative beach sound.

Music Monday: Eyes Open

Sol (Sol Moravia-Rosenberg) is a hip-hop artist based out of Seattle, Washington. His understated lyrics, exuberant performances, and diverse instrumentation have solidified him among the leaders of the northwest music scene. Last year, he released his first independent album, Yours Truly, which quickly rose to #1 on the iTunes US Hip-Hop Chart. Sol then decided to leave the United States on a ten month globe-trotting hiatus as part of the Bonderman Honors Travel Fellowship he was awarded at the University of Washington. Ten months and ten countries later, Sol returned to the United States, evolved and inspired. Now equipped with a world of perspective, Sol is ready to share his newest project, Eyes Open. If you haven’t caught wind of Sol’s music, you’re in for a treat.

Music Monday: Lorne Smith’s 2014 New Year’s Party

As mentioned in a previous Music Monday, Lorne and The Wayhighs would be announcing show soon. They’ve got a pretty awesome event lined up for New Years. Is it too early to start thinking about New Years Eve?  Not when we’re talking about the Wayhighs first ever show in Yosemite at the 11th Annual Yosemite Bug New Year’s […]

Music Monday: Oh, it’s The O’s

Music Monday The O's

Let me introduce to you the Dallas duet known simply as The O’s. Taylor Young and John Pedigo played together in various other bands before striking out alone on their guitar and banjo in 2008. These two can absolutely jam and really show it on their new album, entitled Thunderdog, which let’s be honest is one […]
