This week US Lacrosse released a new video featuring the recent rise of Puerto Rico lacrosse.
Round of applause for US Lacrosse helping Puerto Rico through tough times after Hurricane Maria. This an incredible story and will send you into the weekend wanting to lend a helping hand.
Puerto Rico Lacrosse Stick Story
Following the devastation of Hurricane Maria hitting Puerto Rico in 2017, grants and equipment supplied by US Lacrosse helped played a resurgence in the sport on the island, providing young players with a positive outlet.
Our very own Connor Wilson, publisher of Lacrosse All Stars, has also been involved with growing the game in Puerto Rico. He recently returned from a weekend trip to the island where he help coaching clinics for local volunteers who want to start lacrosse teams. The program continues to make big strides regardless of the weather, and this we love to see!
In 2018, the program released a long-form video sharing a deep look at on-the-ground efforts taking place to grow lacrosse. Here’s a look back at that video now:
2018 brought a great amount of success for our lacrosse family. The Men’s National Team placed 8th overall in the world at the World Lacrosse Championships, our Women’s National team began establishing tryouts, and we finally were able to launch our internship program. This video provides an opportunity for you to see an overview of the work that was done through the eyes of our interns. Not only were they able to provide instruction to the great group of kids attending Fundamentals Sports Summer Camp, but they were able to immerse themselves in the rich culture of Puerto Rico.
We are also blessed by having Connor Wilson from Lax All Stars, fly down and conduct a coach’s clinic to further help integrate this sport on the island of Puerto Rico. We will be establishing an application / selection process for identifying candidates for the 2019 summer internship program and also highly appreciate and encourage any collegiate program to contact us if an opportunity for your team to participate in Puerto Rico becomes possible.
