Top 5 Lacrosse Videos of 2015

Welcome to the Top 5 Lacrosse Videos of 2015! We see more and more lacrosse-related video each year, and while many of them never see more than 100 views racked up on the old counter, others reach millions of people, and can pop lacrosse into the mainstream in some of the weirdest and most amazing ways.

Which lacrosse videos made my list? What is my criteria? I’ll run through it as we go, but basically a video just needs to be big time, and over the top in some way, shape, or form. For a look into 2016, click HERE. We would obviously mention The Courage Game, but we were involved there, so don’t want to come across as biased. It’s a GREAT video though!

5) Irish People Watch Lacrosse For The First Time

You may think this is just a joke, and for the most part it is, but for those willing to look deeper it also provides an interesting perspective on the challenges lacrosse will face as it strives to become a more mainstream sport. The video provides a laugh, but it’s also a somewhat objective look from the outside in, which has value!

Not only is it good for us to see ourselves through the eyes of others, but it also helps our sport reach a broader audience. Some people will just laugh at lacrosse, but others will say, “hey, I actually liked that!”

4) Syracuse’s Trick “Play of the Century”

How does a hidden ball trick on the defensive side end up in a goal 90 yard away? Something like THIS makes the cut because it is very rare and made a lot of noise when it went down.

3) Lacrosse with Rabil on Dude Perfect

In June of 2015, Dude Perfect welcomed Paul Rabil to their channel and they did some trick shots. The lax world loved it, and DP’s numerous followers gave the video a big additional push. You may be asking how in the world a video with almost 9,000,000 views on YouTube isn’t the number 1 video, but it’s all relative here, and views alone don’t dictate true greatness. DP regularly gets over 12,000,000 views on their videos, so while the response was enormous, it doesn’t quite get PR and crew to the #1 spot. This was big for lacrosse though, have no doubt about that!

2) Miles Thompson BTB

It’s short, but sweet, and ESPN thought it nice enough to share. This Vine has been seen by everyone, but it’s just so pretty, it’s worth watching again and again. Neat side BTB on a 4′ by 4′ goal? Why not.

1) Blaze Riorden Goalie Goal

This video was everywhere right after it happened, and it’s still a favorite cropping up here and there. It was an improbable goal, and anyone from any sport could recognize its excellence. This was not only a GREAT play, but it was the kind of thing that could genuinely interest new fans in the sport itself, and not a personality. While the latter is great too, the heart of the game is the game itself. For me, this Riorden goal was all that and more, and it’s my lacrosse video of the year for 2015!

As a bonus, here is the trailer for The Spirit Game, which is sure to be a top video of 2016!
