Better Behind The Back Face Off Video

I’m pretty sure this will never become super popular amongst college players or coaches, but for the kids who really hone their F/O craft, it’s impressive, and adds another level of challenge to winning a draw. This time around it’s Kieran Lee, a 2015 player out of Pine River HS in New York. Like Stephen Cuccurullo, Lee is also a FoGolax.net product.

Size, Speed, Skill: Jason Kelly ’14

jason kelly

The production value of the video above doesn’t hurt, but what’s really good about it is the skill on display from attackman Jason Kelly of Salesianum Lacrosse. He’s got a strong left hand, good size, and a nice ability to parlay that size, speed, strength, and skill into tons of solid scoring chances. He also buries the ball pretty well, and finds open teammates nicely.

10 Players Of Note: UP Lax Annapolis

Club teams from Canada, the West Coast, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and several regions descended upon Annapolis during the second weekend of November for UP Lax. I took in the games, and while the players listed below are not necessarily the best players at the event, each of them captured our attention in one way or another during the games that we saw.

Ever Seen A Behind The Back Face Off?

Stephen Cuccurullo of the Tenacious Turtles wins a face off clamp, pulls the ball out with one hand, and goes behind his back to keep possession. I am pretty sure I couldn’t do that! The ref is in the way, but the video should be slow enough where you can see the action. Pretty insane stuff from a kid who is still quite a few years away from playing in college.

Lax Vegas 2013: Photos from the Las Vegas Lacrosse Showcase

Las Vegas Lacrosse Showcase

The 2013 Las Vegas Lacrosse Showcase went down last weekend in Sin City, and I was there with UCLA competing in the Best of the West collegiate division. I was able to snap some photos of play in all divisions, though, and here are some of the best!

An Ugly Situation: Shoreham-Wading River

For 19 consecutive seasons Tom Rotanz has been the Head Boys Lacrosse Coach at Shoreham-Wading River High School on Long Island. An SWR school board meeting on Tuesday night revealed that Rotanz would not retain his job as the coach of the team, and what had been an ugly situation set to brew, is quickly becoming a steaming hot pot of disaster for people on both sides of the debate.

Busting Rule Myths in NFHS and NCAA Boys Lacrosse

Myth Busted Refs Gordon Corsetti

You hear really strange rule interpretations when working as a traveling lacrosse official. I listen to the most incorrect explanations of what the current lacrosse rules are at every level I officiate and every region I do games in. In this post I cover what I consider the Top 10 Rule Myths in NFHS and NCAA Boys Lacrosse and I bust those myths using the 2013 rulebooks for each respective level.

The World Needed Another Gordon Purdie

The World Needed Another Gordon Purdie

Last Thursday, I threw it back to the 80’s, showing the highlights of the Aldephi lacrosse program, specifically when they took down Harvard. It looks like the passion for lacrosse didn’t stop there, we were informed by big Gordon himself that there is another Gordon Purdie on the scene. His son, Gordon, is a 2015 product, tearing up the sport out in New York.

Junior Swarm: A Model For America

Jr. Swarm

Minnesota is on board, are you? If you read my last article about the Jr. NLL, you probably noticed the guys dressed in the yellow honey comb jerseys. That would be the Junior Swarm and although they haven’t been playing lacrosse indoors for very long, the instruction and commitment they have received from Aime Caines, Ryan Benesch and the rest of the Swarm organization, is what I believe rocketed them to the top.

2016 Non-Hot Bed FoGo

Lacrosse in Missouri is definitely growing, but it has a long way to go before it’s considered a hot bed of recruitable D1 lacrosse talent. At this point in the state’s development, the above is to be expected, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t ANY D1 level talent in the state! To prove you wrong, I’d like you to meet Alex Bean.
