Welcome to Throwback Thursday! Corey Robert sent in this great video featuring some high school lacrosse in New Jersey from 1975! Corey’s dad was the goalie for Boonton in the above game where they played Montclair from the State Championship. Montclair won in 1975, and Boonton took the title in 1976, with Mr. Robert still in goal.

This question was asked in reference to club programs, specifically high school club teams, rather than to “brands” in the sense of gear manufacturers. So, are there “national lacrosse brands,” and if so, are they better than local club teams?

The Summer with StickStar
This summer, I had the great privilege of being able to coach with the StickStar program based out of Texas. Being a part of this organization gave me a different perspective on the game and ultimately helped me to become a better lacrosse player and coach in the end.

I’m not saying that Canadian players are always one-handed players, but more often than not they have a true strong hand, and a weaker hand. With Brent Noseworthy, that might be true as well, but I’m having a hard time telling which one is which! Is he a lefty or a righty? Honestly, I can’t really tell.
Box Lacrosse Player With HUGE Field Upside
Layne Smith is a 2015 attackman who also plays a whole lot of box lacrosse. He’s not the tallest kid in the field, but he’s thick (5’11” and 195) and uses his strength and balance to his advantage very well. He also has a super stick, and finishes inside with a flurry of fakes.
Meet Mini Tucker Durkin
I love an overtly physical defenseman! Any good team can use a guy who is looking to bring the heat on hits, and when the guy can also play solid one on one defense, use his stick to move the ball, AND has a good lacrosse IQ, you have to think you’ve found a winner.
The Next Brett Queener: 2015 Goalie
When I say a player is the next Brett Queener, one must assume I’m talking about a goalie who makes big saves, but can also run the field, spark transition, and drop the occasional assist, or goal. One has assumed correctly. Hayden Walsh is a 2015 Canadian Keeper who plays for Edge Canada and he LOVES to push the ball upfield… at least that’s what his highlight tape says!
This 2015 Player WILL Be Good In College
I’m always looking for high school level highlight tapes where I am convinced that the player in question has a solid future in the college game. The player doesn’t have to be a top 10 D1 lock to get noticed, but they do have to do something special, like show an uncanny ability to finish, a high IQ for their age, a great set of defensive checks, or a goalie who shines.
