Game Photos: Notre Dame Dominates Jacksonville

Notre Dame took on Jacksonville down in Florida last night for the Moe’s Southwest Grill Classic, and the Irish put an absolute beat down on Jacksonville. Check out our College Lacrosse Video Explosion for more of the weekend’s action! Or the D3 Lacrosse Report if that’s your thing…

Notre Dame went up big early and cruised to a 19-7 win with plenty of players seeing time. The other game in the Classic (Ohio State knocked off by UMass) was much tighter and we have awesome photos of that too.

Matt Kavanaugh put up three goals and added three assists. He was scary good. Conor Doyle had the hat trick as well. 13 players in total scored for Notre Dame. They are ready for the ACC! Conor Kelly looked more than ready to step in between the pipes and was extremely steady all night within that defense. Liam O’Connor crushed it on face offs and gave Notre Dame a notable edge.

Duncan Clancy had four points for Jacksonville, but Notre Dame did a great job on him all night long, which is a key to disrupting the Dolphins’ offensive chemistry. The Irish defense was stout, and played well together. No surprises there. Expect continued excellence from a group that can also handle the ball intelligently.

Notre Dame was well prepared for JU as the Duke game had been on ESPN3. The Dolphins had not seen ND play this year, and that seemed to play into the equation at some level, but it was far from the deciding factor. Notre Dame’s face off work was superb, their offense was cohesive, guys were shooting the lights out, and their defense eats up dodge and dump offenses. It was a perfect storm for Notre Dame… in that they were the storm.

At least four players on Notre Dame are using traditional sticks, making them an instant fan favorite.

Notre Dame hosts Penn State on February 22nd, and Nittany Lions are coming off an OT loss to Loyola. Jacksonville now sits at 0-2 and they host Bellarmine on February 22nd.

  1. I watched JU play at Canisius in Buffalo last year in a 26* snow game, and they played with way more intensity then last night. Granted that was last season, and vs. a different team, but I bet JU will look a lot better in the rest of their season.
