Brian Carcaterra: Going Pro in a New Era

Brian Carcaterra, younger brother of ESPN TV personality Paul Carcaterra, is back in the game after a 15 year hiatus. The 40-year-old goalie will be making a return to the MLL on Saturday as the backup goalie for the New York Lizards but admits things have changed since his last foray in the league.

From a physical, athletic and technical aspect, the guys today are so much more evolved. Paul Rabil looks like Lebron James out there. What Rob Pannell can do with his stick and his vision is unlike anything I’ve seen. I think today’s players are amazing catchers of the ball, if that makes sense. What they can do inside through traffic, withstanding stick checks and moving like 100 mph is just incredible. The way that they conduct themselves and use social media, the way they treat their bodies in terms of nutrition and the way they exercise is totally different. When I last played in the league, I’d say less than 20 percent of the guys made a living through lacrosse.

#LoveBetter

The Cal and Stanford Women’s teams square off today but have come together to raise awareness about relationship violence. Both teams will wear matching shirts before the game while going through warm-ups with the hashtag #LoveBetter, a nod to the One Love Foundation.
