Since the day he arrived in the PLL, Grant Ament has been one of the league’s top players, dazzling us with cross-field passes, ankle-breaking dodges, and leading the Archers highly-potent offense. His second season has been much of the same, and Grant Ament is one of the PLL MVP frontrunners so far in 2021.
Ament continued where he left off in 2020 and is one of the main reasons why the Archers offense has been so good this season. He’s been the main ball carrier for an Archers team averaging 13.5 points per contest, and through seven games, Ament boasted a league-leading 29 points. He’s had at least three points in every game this season and has currently accounted for 33 percent of all of his team’s assists and 19 percent of its overall points.
With nine Archers selected to the 2021 PLL All-Star Game, the talent surrounding Grant Ament can make it easy to write him off as MVP, but he’s the quarterback at X. Ament is directing his teammates all over the field and passing his teammates open. Even with the recent struggles the Archers have had, Ament is still putting his teammates in position to succeed. His playmaking ability is a catch-22 for defenses; he has the speed and quickness to beat you around the crease, and if you try to cut him off or double him, Ament will use his elite vision to find an open teammate for an easy goal. He’s been almost unguardable this season.
The Archers have made it a point to show the rest of the league that they should be in the conversation for best team in the league. Many of Ament’s teammates have been vocal about the disrespect, but Ament has let his game do the talking. He has already surpassed his 2020 totals and will continue to rack up the points over the final two games of the regular season. These last two contests are huge for Archers, because if it wins both, it could end up with the top seed and first-round bye in the playoffs.
Grant Ament will be an elite talent in the PLL for many years to come, but if he leads the Archers deep into the playoffs , it could be the first of many MVPs for the young superstar.
