On September 10, the Give & Go Foundation launched the Kyle Harrison Scholarship fund in an action effort to create a more diverse and inclusive environment within the game of lacrosse. The effort will identify a young Black lacrosse player through an application process and provide financial support in their pursuit of higher education and the game at the next level.
The fund is inspired by lacrosse pioneer Kyle Harrison and his commitment to making lacrosse a safe and welcoming sport for all. Currently a midfielder for the Redwoods LC of the PLL, Harrison rose to national attention in 2005 when he became the first minority athlete to win the Tewaaraton Trophy, leading Johns Hopkins to a perfect 16-0 record and NCAA National Championship. From there he became a champion, all-star and trendsetter across a 16-year professional career. Born with a stick in his hands, Kyle was given the game from his father, Dr. Miles Harrison, a member of the first all-Black NCAA lacrosse team at Morgan State in the early 1970s.
