On January 10-12, 2020, the lacrosse world descended upon Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the mecca of the sport — US Lacrosse’s LaxCon. Among the fans, coaches, national champions, professional players, vendors and young players toting their gear stood one man — the Lax Dad.
Journeying from Long Island with his son Zachary, he spent the weekend catching up with old friends (30 years!), learning new skills and regaling the crowds with tales of Zachary’s on-field prowess. Between the duffel bags full of free swag and the 15 cheesesteaks, the only trace of the Lax Dad that remained in Philadelphia was his vlog and this unsent postcard to his wife…
“Dear Dianne,
This place is HEAVEN. I know you are mad about me missing our anniversary, but I gotta tell you, it’s been worth it. AND, me being here gave me the chance to scoop you up a brand new breathable fabric quarter zip. It’s lovely! I have to admit, I have not seen Zachary in close to 8 hours, but rest assured, we are planning on meeting at the PLL booth when Paul Rabil swings by. I am not missing that. I will be asking PR99 to attend Zachary’s 14th birthday party, and I just know that when he looks into my eyes he will know how much it will mean to me — I mean, Zachary. I know it’s been on our radar for a while, but I chatted with those Trilogy guys, and the time is NOW to get him out to the Future Aces. We gotta get him seen! And what a well-run operation those guys have! Thank you for supporting my journey of becoming a Level 2 Certified Coach / PCA Approved Double-goal coach. We made it, honey!
