Rob Pannell To PLL: The Anticipated Announcement

Rob Pannell has announced that he will be joining the Premier Lacrosse League this upcoming season. Both Pannell and the league announced it on social media Monday morning.

Rob Pannell Announces Joining The PLL

The Announcement

Quick Thoughts: Rob Pannell – PLL

  • Pannell had been long speculated to leave Major League Lacrosse after his contract was up with the MLL. Pannell had been publishing social media posts about his free agency, making his announcement of where he would land this morning.
  • The move was not surprising, as there had been stirrings of Pannell leaving for quite some time. Pannell and Paul Rabil are good friends and were teammates on the New York Lizards in Major League Lacrosse before Rabil launched the Premier Lacrosse League last season that competed with the MLL (you can read about the PLL’s first season by clicking here, as well as thoughts on last year’s MLL season by clicking here).
  • While the video was certainly entertaining, we are not aware of many people — if anyone —reputable in the industry who has actually doubted Pannell’s ability to still compete at the highest level wherever he plays, given that Pannell entered the last MLL season coming off of a world championship in 2018 and averaged barely under four points per game while finishing tied for second in the MLL in total points last year with 63.

Thoughts That Aren’t Really Important (Or Are Depending On Your Point Of View)

  • Pannell unsurprisingly had his shirt off for a good chunk of the announcement. The move was very on-brand.
