At this point last season, the Denver Outlaws had officially clinched a trip to Championship Weekend, leaving the remaining seven (well, six, to be honest – sorry Ohio) teams to duke it out for the remaining three spots. This year’s a bit different: not only are all playoff spots still available, but everyone still has a shot at the postseason.

Game Photos: Bayhawks Top Cannons 16-15
The Chesapeake Bayhawks got back on the winning track with a big 16-15 win over the visiting Boston Cannons this past weekend, and Craig Chase was there snapping superb photos for our viewing pleasure. Not a bad deal! This is Boston’s 4th loss of the season (they now sit at 3-4), and each of these losses has come by single goal.
Game Photos: Ohio Machine Defeat Bayhawks
The Ohio Machine took on the Chesapeake Bayhawks, and earned a 15-11 win from the defending champs on the road in front of lively crowd on Saturday night. Chesapeake is now 1-4 on the year, and needs to find a way to get back to their winning ways. Ohio entered the game at 1-3 (like the Bayhawks) but moved to 2-3 with the big road W.
2014 Major League Lacrosse Preview
Ladies and gentlemen, once again, it’s on. It’s time for the 2014 Major League Lacrosse season to begin. Which team will end up in Atlanta four months from now, hoisting the Steinfeld Cup and doing the Nae Nae or whatever it is they’re doing in Atlanta four months from now? No idea whatsoever, but it’s time to find out, so let’s start things off with a team-by-team season preview.
New Look for Bayhawks, Jersey Release for Launch
The MLL announced today that every year, the league will be selecting two teams to help “makeover” for the upcoming season. Here in 2014, they’re starting with the newcomer Florida Launch and the 2013 Champions, the Chesapeake Bayhawks.
Throwback Thursday: 2001 MLL Semifinal
Welcome to Throwback Thursday! The year is 2001, and Major League Lacrosse has just completed their first season of real play. Long Island took down Rochester in the first semifinal, and now the Boston Cannons are taking on the Baltimore (now Chesapeake) Bayhawks!

Floridafication of Launch Continues: Powell & Fullerton
The biggest news out of Florida so far has been the Casey Powell – Joe Walters swap that went down yesterday. Powell was a leader for the Bayhawks last year, and helped them win their second straight title. It’s a little surprising to see Powell leave such a monster team, but when you consider all the promotion work he did for the last MLL All-Star game (held in Florida), it starts to make a lot of sense…
MLL Announces 23-Man Rosters
Major League Lacrosse has announced that every team in the league has submitted its 23-Man Protected Roster for 2014. The MLL also sent out the rosters for the 8 teams. Teams are granted a 40-man roster leading into the season, and they can fill those remaining 17 spots with supplemental draft picks, college draft picks, and trades, before the start of the 2014 campaign.
The Chesapeake Bayhawks Repeat Recipe
According to Bayhawks head coach Dave Cottle, 94 feet is the distance a halogen lamp projects its light; a number so arbitrary you’d have to assume it to be correct. “If you’re driving from Florida to Maryland,” said Cottle during a mid-season conference call, “you’re not looking at Florida or Maryland, you’re looking 94 feet ahead of you.”
Tweet of the Week: MLL Championship Edition
Since it was just MLL Championship Weekend, and my favorite team, the Chesapeake Bayhawks, were crowned champs for the second consecutive season and fifth overall (some would call that a dynasty), I’m allowing two tweets for this week’s Tweet of the Week. And what do they teach us? No one passes like the Hawks, and heroes are remembered, but old man legends never die.
