Continuing in its commitment to supporting underserved athletes in their pursuit of lacrosse and education, the Give & Go Foundation has followed up the launch of the Kyle Harrison Scholarship Fund with the Turtle Island Scholarship Fund to focus on aiding Indigenous youth. Recently launched by pro lacrosse stars from Six Nations, Randy Staats and Brendan Bomberry, Turtle Island Lacrosse is a new initiative focused on tying lacrosse training in with education to develop a rich cultural understanding of the sport.
The two causes will work together to fundraise and draw awareness to the new Turtle Island Scholarship Fund. A pair of Syracuse Orange stars, Staats and Bomberry have grown their illustrious collegiate and junior box seasons into exciting pro careers and seasoned members of the Iroquois Nationals. With the wealth of playing experiences at the highest levels around the globe on their resumes, the athletes are now focusing on giving back to not only the communities they were brought up in, but also educating others on why lacrosse is a core element of the Haudenosaunee lifestyle as well as why, and how, the game should be respected as more than a common sport.
Turtle Island Scholarship
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a clearly described need for financial support.
- Be significantly impacted by this scholarship.
- Have demonstrated leadership qualities in the classroom, community, and on the playing field.
- Have demonstrated a commitment to giving back to others within their community.
- Intend to pursue their academic and lacrosse career beyond high school.
Any Indigenous lacrosse players between the ages of 10 to 21 years old with a specific need for financial support relating to lacrosse is welcome to apply.
Applications will be accepted between 10/1/20 – 7/1/21. Scholarships will be awarded in August 2021.
