Crosse Clicks: Wall You Were Sleeping…

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ver the past seven days, we’ve seen a lot happen in the beautiful game of lacrosse. Teams playing through outrageous weather conditions. A trail blazed for the future of the professional game. Stick Tricks, NCAA Previews and MCLA Previews galore.

Thing is, the season is just getting started. The fireworks haven’t even begun. Calling it now – 2014 will be a year to remember for the lacrosse enthusiast in us all.

First off, if you haven’t studied the NCAA men’s lacrosse top 25 rankings yet, now’s a good time. The links below to the USILA rankings should help get you up to speed. The USILA rankings are the most accurate in college lacrosse, in my opinion. The various media polls out there are half baked, so the results are inconclusive at best.

Second, let’s point a big fat finger at STX. The growing team over there has been making serious noise lately, so we might as well pay a little respect. It’s also nice to see a brand help bridge the gap between two professional leagues. (LAS)

Looking for quality high school lacrosse rankings this season? Students Sports recently released a handful of in-depth regional previews that are worth taking a look at if ranking and assessing boys or girls under 18 years of age is your thing. Congratulations go out to Tom Campolettano, head women’s lacrosse coach at Molloy College, for being inducted into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Prior to starting the Molloy program nine years ago, Campolettano served as head coach of the girls lacrosse program at Manhasset High School for seven years. (WomenPlayBall.com)

Two youth lacrosse players in Rupert, Idaho, have approached the city (population 5,514) about starting a team. Parks and rec has stepped up to help, too. (MiniCassia.com)

Meanwhile, the boys lacrosse coaching staff at Park City High School in Park City, UT (about 210 miles southeast of Rupert) is absolutely stacked. (Park Record)

Second year program Marquette snagged their first win of the season, 11-9 over Hofstra. (GoMarquette.com)

Twelve Washington State lacrosse programs recently received equipment grants from US Lacrosse. Each grant provides $7,000 in lacrosse equipment. (WashingtonHSLax.com)

There’s some serious bro-mance going on in the NLL right now. (Edmonton Journal)

Brett Bucktooth notched 6 goals and 6 assists on Friday night, leading the Vancouver Stealth to a 19-9 win over the Colorado Mammoth. (IslandSportsNews)

Lacrosse Magazine’s Gary Lambrecht provided an insightful look at the Penn State men’s lacrosse team’s explosive start this season. Got to appreciate Coach Tramboni‘s Stockton-to-Malone comments! Bummer to see the Nittany Lions lost to Loyola in OT. (LaxMagazine, Baltimore Sun)

Rest in peace, Scoop Kelly. Kelly was the head boys lacrosse coach and social studies teacher at Bel Air High School in Maryland. (Baltimore Sun)

Westminster College snagged its first win as an MCLA Division I program in the RMLC, beating Utah State 19-6. Westminster previously competed as a MCLA Division II program and had been pushing hard to go NCAA Division II since the program’s inception. (Deseret News)

Georgetown’s Jeff Fountain scored the game winner in OT against Navy for the second year in a row this weekend. This time, however, it was a bit controversial! (Washington Post)

The John Carroll Blue Streaks won their first game as a varsity men’s lacrosse program, beating the Concordia Falcons by two. (JCUSports.com)

Michigan men’s lacrosse clobbered Mercer 20-7 with fifteen Wolverines scoring at least one point. Nice to see the UM program starting to click! (Michigan Daily)

After only winning 1 of 4 one-goal games in 2013, the #5 Salisbury Sea Gulls are glad to be 1-0 in that department so far this year. Salisbury recently beat #11 Lynchburg 12-11 in OT. (Baltimore Sun)

And last, but certainly not least, this one’s for my mom! A big, proud, over-the-top congratulations goes out to JoJo Brunelle, Kristy Sligar, Tad Arnt, and Bob Durland as these fine folks were recently inducted into the Idaho Lacrosse Hall of Fame. (Idaho Lacrosse News)
