Skills Competitions Set For High Peaks This June

Two exciting new elements have been added to the High Peaks Summit Classic in its second year. First, there’s the skills competitions. Something new and different that’ll be fun to watch. Then there’s the fact that teams can now qualify for a spot at the Lake Placid Summit Classic in August by winning the tournament.

The High Peaks Summit Classic is a reincarnation of the longstanding August event and takes place at the front end of the summer, June 23-34. The tournament even includes an MLL 2-point arc. Kevin Leveille, former Team USA captain, and his awesome team at Summit Lacrosse Ventures direct both events.

Skills Competitions: Make A Name For Yourself

Summit has put together a handful of challenging skills competitions. Each entrant will compete for his/her division crown. Here’s how the competitions will work:

BIG SHOT 2-PT GOAL COMPETITION

  • Competition is based on aggregate total of 2-pt goals scored throughout entire tournament (4 games)
  • Competition is per division

ACCURACY COMPETITION

  • Competition will take place at the Skills Zone on Saturday, June 23
  • Participants will have ten (10) seconds to take up to five (5) shots
  • Corner targets will be located in all four corners of a standard lacrosse goal
  • Winners will be determined by most corners hit, in the fastest time
  • Competition is per division

FASTEST SHOT COMPETITION

  • Competition will take place at the Skills Zone on Saturday, June 23
  • Participants will be allowed two (2) shots from a set distance from the goal
  • Shot must be on goal to count
  • Winners will be determined by fastest shot (duh)
  • Competition is per division

LONG BALL DISTANCE COMPETITION

  • Competition will take place at the Skills Zone on Saturday, June 23
  • Participants will be allowed two (2) throws
  • Throw must land within ‘landing zone’ which will be clearly marked
  • Distance is marked on final resting point of the ball
  • Winners will be determined based on longest distance (again, duh)
  • Competition is per division
