Craig Chase took in Loyola’s dismantling of Duke from Ridley Athletic Complex and sent over these fantastic game photos! We’ve got a couple great shots, and a GIF of a big and violent hit.
A decade ago, there were only a handful of truly elite recruiting camps and tournaments. If you wanted to be seen by top level coaches, and play against the best, this small number of events were where you wanted to be. Fast forward to today, and it seems like there are more recruiting events than there are recruits!
Fairfield opened up a 1 goal lead after 1 quarter, and a 2 goal lead going into the half, but Yale just would not go quietly into that good night. Both teams put up 4 goals in the third, and Yale clamped down in the fourth to blank Fairfield, while scoring two goals of their own, to tie it up at 11. OT came and Stags’ senior Eric Warden launched a bomb from about 13 yards to win it for Fairfield.
Plenty of excellent action this weekend, and plenty of it is online already. We’ll be back later this week more with more visual excellence, but here is the good stuff… for now.
They shot well, came in with a great game plan, and executed to perfection. It’s still early in March, but Loyola is clearly a team on a mission this year. I expect them to drop another game or two and possibly have some off days, but if they are gelling at the end of the year like this, the Hounds are as dangerous as anyone in the country.
UVA was up 5-2 on Cornell in the second quarter and looking to improve to 7-0. Cornell said not so fast, scored 9 straight goals, and took a commanding 11-5 lead. Cornell ended up winning the game 12-9 as UVA tried to claw their way back in, but to no avail.
Way back in 1991 CBS Sports was covering the NCAA D1 Men’s Lacrosse Championship. They thought it would be a good idea to showcase Jim Brown, the lacrosse player, at halftime. They were wrong… it was a GREAT idea! Lax School brings you the full segment on Jim Brown’s days on the lacrosse field for Syracuse University in this MUST SEE video!
LAS Partner, Maverik Lacrosse, was nice enough to hook me up with a couple of their new Metrik heads to string up and I have to be honest… I’m loving how these heads string up! Whether it’s mesh or leathers, it’s an easy head to string and the Universal face shape is definitely a favorite of mine already.
Earlier this we trickled out the quick release videos from teams like UVM, Albany’s Miles Thompson, Delaware, Johns Hopkins, Pace, and others. There was also a great Loyola GIF. Now we get to the rest of this week’s visual entertainment! There is more than enough to go around.
I’ve come to grips with the fact that swag is going to play a part in our greater society, and therefore lacrosse. Sitting in my brick tower I can easily sit back and decry swag, but this time around I’m going to offer up something a little different, and acknowledge that swag is indeed a part of the game now. Come to think of it, it’s been a part of the game for a long, long time, and I’ve been far from immune.
The Groups for Denver 2014 have been announced. You can see them here. And now the details are out, and the full schedule of games is public info. Take a gander… that’s a LOT of lacrosse.
The FIL 2014 World Lacrosse Championships are only a Spring season away, and we’re all extremely excited. National teams around the world are preparing to make the trip to Colorado for two weeks (or more in some cases) in July, and that means a lot of training camps, scrimmages, and quite a bit of fundraising!
Lynn University, located in Boca Raton, FL has added an NCAA D2 men’s lacrosse team, and the program kicked off its inaugural season officially last night with their first ever game. Lynn hosted fellow NCAA D2 program Wheeling Jesuit (located in West Virginia) for their program opener and dropped a 14-5 decision.
Lacrosse on television is great for people like us (lacrosse people) for many reasons, the most obvious being that we simply get to watch lacrosse, and that in and of itself is fun. But a deeper benefit to watching the game is learning the game, and players, coaches, and even refs can all learn a thing or two by watching a lot of lacrosse on TV.
